Abstract
150,939. Mills, C. H., English, W. E., and Hannan, J. R. Feb. 2, 1920. U-tube and like superheaters.-A superheater for supplying steam simultaneously at two different degrees of superheat comprises a divided central chamber a, to the inlet b of which saturated steam is supplied from the boiler. The steam passes to the right and left through the upper headers c, g, through single and double U superheater tubes d, h respectively, through the lower headers e, i, to the outlets f, j. Should the demand for steam from either section of the superheater cease temporarily, steam passes from the section not in use, through holes k, l in the chamber a<1> to the other section from which steam is being drawn. In modifications, the outlets for superheated steam are located respectively on the central chamber a and one lower header, or on one lower and one upper header. In a further modification, the whole volume of steam passes through one part of the superheater. Part of the steam is drawn off while the remainder passes on to be further superheated.
