Abstract

326,736. Babcock & Wilcox, Ltd., (Babcock & Wilcox Co.). July 9, 1929. U-tube superheater.-A steam header 1 particularly intended for superheaters has handholes provided with covers 4 and disposed preferably opposite tubes 2 through which steam is discharged. To distribute the steam entering the right-hand end of the header, diaphragms 9 are secured to or formed integrally with the covers 4 and preferably increase uniformly in size towards the end remote, from the inlet. The larger diaphragms may be too large to insert through a handhole in which case, the end cover 3 may, be removed and the diaphragms and attached covers drawn in as by a wire, or they may be introduced separately from the covers and only secured thereto when adjacent the appropriate handhole.
