Abstract

1509263 Rotary positive-displacement fluid-machines B O STOOKEY 1 July 1975 27677/75 Heading F1F In an I.C. engine fuel-and-air mixture is compressed by a sliding-vane rotor (15), Fig. 5 (not shown), in a housing comprising a cylinder 13 and subsequently ignited by a spark-plug 27 after being transferred to combustion chambers 25A, B, C in a rotor 25 within a housing including a cylinder 23, the combustion products driving another sliding- vane rotor 35, which is enclosed by a housing comprising a cylinder 33. The combustion chambers communicate with the intervane spaces of the other rotors 15, 35 through ports 19A, B and 29A, B in end-plates 12, 21 and 22, 32. An auxiliary exhaust-port 29D facilitates scavenging of the combustion chambers, the main exhaust-port 40A communicating with the intervane spaces of the rotor 35. The output shaft 10 inter-connects the rotors. Alternatively, air per se is compressed by the rotor (15) and fuel is injected into the compressed air flowing between the ports 19A, B through a "sleeve" 19.
