Abstract

1508858 Clamping articles to panels ATWOOD VACUUM MACHINE CO 28 July 1975 [2 Aug 1974] 31435/75 Heading E2B An article e.g. a latch operating handle assembly 10 is attached to a panel 11 e.g. of a car door by a wedge assembly 40, the article including a rectangular projection 15 inserted through a hole 16 in the panel and having lugs 45 on the projection 15, and a flange 14 for engaging the periphery of the hole; and the wedge assembly including legs 41 joined by a bridge 43, each leg including a flange 46 for engaging the panel and an inclined cam surface 44 for engaging a respective lug 45. The wedge may be fastened by passing a bolt 47 rigidly attached to the projection 15 through a hole 49 of the bridge and securing it with a nut 50. Operation of the handle mechanism: when an outer door handle 13 is pivoted on arm 23 of the handle 13 pulls down an arm 24, which causes an abutment 29 of a lever 26 pivoted to a link 37 to pivot a lever 30 anticlockwise and release a door latch (not shown) via a link 31. A link 33 operated by an inner door handle may likewise pivot the lever 30. To prevent operation of the outer handle 13 releasing the latch, a link 36 is operated by means within the car to pivot an arm 34 clockwise and hence cause link 37 to move the lever 26 and hence remove the abutment 29 from engagement with the lever 30.
