1508597 Garments GEFF (DRESSES) Ltd 21 April 1975 [27 June 1974] 28554/74 Heading A3V A garment for covering at least the lower part of the trunk has an area of greater resilient expansibility at least in the horizontal direction than other parts of the garment below waist level, the area extending downwardly from the waist region over substantially the whole abdominal region of the wearer and extending across substantially the whole width of the front portion of the garment. Area 13 has horizontal elasticated threads 14 and is attached to the elasticated or elastic front portion 12 of waistband 11 and sewn at lower seam (16) into the garment. Area 13 extends to or beyond side seams 15. The material of the area is gathered between vertical threads (17). The area may be of the same material as the garment, integral with it and be ruched with elasticated thread. The area may comprise a smocked, ruched or pleated portion or portions in which the material is expansible in the horizontal direction only. Parts e.g. the sides of the area may be resiliently expansible and parts e.g. the centre be non-expansible. Area 13 extends down 20 to 30 cm from the waistline or garment top to give abdominal support for maternity wear. An area 13 may be provided above the waist. Examples of garments are outerwear, dresses, skirts, slacks, trousers, swimwear, nightwear, underwear and pants.
