Abstract
1508472 Aluminiding metallic substrates GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 28 Feb 1975 [1 March 1974] 44957/77 Divided out of 1508471 Heading C7F A metallic diffusion coating is produced by (a) providing a powder of an alloy of 51 to 61 wt. per cent of aluminium, the balance being iron, the alloy being predominantly in the form of a two-phase structure of F 2 Al 5 and FeAl 3 which melts above the coating temperature in a binder which will decompose without residue at below the coating temperature, disposing the mixture in a uniform layer to form a flexible film, placing the film in contact with the article to be coated and heating to 1700-2100F. A halide salt activator may be present, e.g. NaF, KF, NH 4 Cl or NH 4 F. The powder may be of 100 to 300 mesh.
