Abstract
1508473 Aluminiding nickel or cobalt alloys GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 28 Feb 1975 [1 March 1974] 44958/77 Heading C7F A localized patch aluminide diffusion coating is applied to a surface having an aluminide diffusion coating is obtained by, cleaning the article surface, placing in contact with the surface an alloy powder consisting of 51 to 61 wt. per cent of aluminium, the balance being iron, subjecting the surface and the adjacent aluminide coating to a non-oxidizing atmosphere in the presence of a halide salt activator, which will react with the alloy powder to provide an aluminium halide and then applying heat in the range of 1700-2100F for sufficient time to react forming the aluminium halide and to transfer and diffuse aluminium from the aluminium halide into the article surface and into the adjacent aluminide coating. The article surface may be of nickel or cobalt, and the powder may be of 100-325 mesh. Suitable halide activators are NaF, KF, NH 4 Cl and NH 4 F.
