Abstract
1419289 Diffusing aluminium and chromium into metal substrates CHRYSLER CORP 21 Dec 1973 [27 Dec 1972] 59457/73 Heading C7F Metal substrates, preferably low carbon Fe based alloys are simultaneously diffusion coated with Al and Cr by heating in contact with a Cr source and an Al source in an atmosphere of H 2 and HF. The Cr source is Cr - Fe, Al -Cr and/or Cr metal and the Al source is Al - Fe and/or Al - Cr. The substrate is preferably dipped in a slurry of the source material, heated at 700-800F to remove the slurry binder and then heated at 2000F in H 2 + 1-5% vol. HF and cooled from 1000F in argon. A turbine engine regenerator cone assembly may be pre-heated at 1600-1700F in wet H2 prior to diffusion alloying with Cr and Al.
