Abstract
1296729 Coating with metals by diffusion HOWMET CORP 4 Sept 1970 [8 Sept 1969] 42477/70 Heading C7F Nickel or cobalt or alloys thereof are pack diffusion coated first with W or Cr and then with Al. The thickness of the first coating is À0001 to À0005 of an inch and that of the second coating is À001 to À005 of an inch. The first pack contains 1 to 30% by weight of Cr or W, a finely divided filler e.g. alumina, and À01 to 5% by weight of halide, e.g. ammonium chloride or fluoride. The diffusion is carried out in argon or hydrogen at 1700 to 2000‹F. The second pack contains À1 to 10% by weight of Al, a filler, e.g. alumina, and À01 to 5% of ammonium chloride or fluoride. The reaction takes place in hydrogen or an inert atmosphere at 1800 to 2000‹F.
