Abstract

1369943 Coating by halide pack diffusion TOYOTA CHUO KENKYUSHO KK 19 Dec 1972 [20 Dec 1971(3)] 58593/72 Heading C7F A substrate of iron or ferrous alloy containing at least 0À02 wt. per cent C is coated with carbide by packing in a powdery treating material containing 0À5 to 80 wt. per cent of an alkali metal or ammonium fluoborate and 20 to 99À5% of a metal powder composed of or containing at least one of Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Mo, and W or mixtures thereof and heating to 600 to 1200‹ C. Heating may be for ¢ - 30 hours; the metal may be added as an alloy, e.g. with Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, or Al, and the powder may contain an inert refractory, e.g. Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , BN or Cr 2 O 3 .
