Abstract
1378478 Forming carbide layers TOYOTA CHUO KENKYUSHO KK 1 May 1973 [12 April 1973] 20629/73 Heading C7F Fe, ferrous alloys or cemented carbide substrates containing at least 0À05%C are coated with a group Va carbide by immersion in a fused bath containing a group Va chloride and boric acid and/or a borate. The chlorides are VCl 3 , VCl 4 , NbCl 3 and TaCl 5 in an amount of 1-40 wt per cent. The borates are Na 2 B 4 O 7 or K2B407 and an alkali metal chloride or fluoride may be included in the melt. The bath temperature may be 800-1100‹C and immersion time 10 minutes to 30 hours. The bath container may be graphite or steel and the process is carried out in air or an inert gas.
