Abstract
1331007 Aluminized Co-base superalloys UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP 20 March 1972 [1 April 1971] 12928/72 Heading C7F A Co-base superalloy substrate containing 1-4wt per cent Al has an inner coating zone near the surface of the substrate comprising a discontinuous layer of refactory metal carbides interspersed with # - Co Al and an adjacent outer coating zone consisting principally of # - Co Al. Typically an alloy containing 15-30 wt per cent Cr, 5-25% W, Mo, Ta and/or Nb, 0À05-2%C, 0-20% Ni, 1-4% Al, balance Co is aluminized by halide pack diffusion in a mixture of Al-Si alloy, NH 4 Cl and Al 2 O 3 , e.g. at 760‹C., and subsequently heat-treated to produce at the surface the #-aluminide Co Al.
