Abstract

Bands, strengthening.-A fastener for securing binders of wire or flat metal strip around boxes, crates, or other package comprises a flat metal plate having one or more loops through which the ends of the binder are passed, after which the fastener is upset by means of a tool so as to bring the upper and lower surfaces of the fastener flush with the upper and lower surfaces of the binder. The fastener comprises a plate d, Fig. 4, provided with a loop or loops d<1> pressed out of the plane of the plate and forming a passage through which the ends of the binder B are passed, as shown in Fig. 2. The edges of the loop and of the plate d are separated by slits d<3> to prevent shearing of the binder. The fastener is upset with the binder, as shown in Fig. 1.
