Abstract

Straps, strengthening; tampering with, preventing.-Packing-cases of the kind bound with iron strips dispose'd in grooves have these strips secured by means of rivets, nails, wire, or the like, the outer ends of these fastenings being sealed to the strips by soldering &c. In one form, each end of the box is embraced by a band g, Figs. 1 and 2, around the top, bottom, and sides, and the ends b are traversed by cross bands g<1> secured to the bands g by means of junctionplates q held by rivets r, sufficient solder being used to secure also a wire ring v and to tako the impression of a seal if desired. The bands g, g<1> may also be secured by solder at their points of intersection. The straps are secured to the lid after closing by means of wires passing therethrough and afterwards sealed by soldering. The edges of the case may be surface-bound as usual by metal strips nailed on, the ends of the strips being soldered together.
