Tampering with, preventing and detecting; battens, strengthening.-In order to prevent or detect tampering with a packing-case battens 1 - - 4 are fixed externally around the ends 7 of the case to form closing caps therefor, and the battens 1, 2 project beyond the sides and ends of the case so as to enclose the ends of the lid 6 which is secured by metallic straps 9 passing around the case. To open the case the straps must be cut at the points c, the battens 2 being then released and allowing the lid 6 to be removed. Additional battens 13, 14 and wire straps 11 may be used. The end straps 9 may be dispensed with, in which case the lid 6 would be nailed to the edges of the other sides.
