Corner joints; tampering with, preventing.- The edges of the various parts constituting a packing-case are so interfitted that in conjunction with one or more metal bands or wires under tension encircling the case and having their ends sealed or inseparably connected, tampering with the contents is prevented. Fig. 1 shows one method of effecting the interfitting; the ends A, sides B, and top and bottom C have cross stays A', B<1>, C<1> respectively the abutting edges of which serve to keep the assembled parts in position. Bands are stretched tightly round the walls of the case, preferably housed in grooves E the ends of the bands being sealed or inseparably connected. Fig. 3 shows the interfitting effected by rabbeting the edges of the parts; if cross stays are employed in this construction they are placed so as to reinforce the parts where the latter are weakened by the cutting of the grooves E. Fig. 6 shows a construction in which projecting corners on the sides B and recessed corners on the remaining members effect the interfitting, and Fig. 8 a. modification of this in which to provide an effective assembly dovetailing of the interfitting edges is resorted to.
