136,964. Haigh, A. E. Feb. 27, 1919. Corner joints; lids. - The lid 3 of a packing-case fits completely within the sides, and around the exterior of the sides a hoop-iron band 2 passes. Each edge of the lid has one or more depending lugs 5 formed of metal strip; through coincident holes in the band and the lugs, securing-screws 8 are passed, either wood screws entering the lid or metal screws engaging in nuts or tapped bushes 11, preferably recessed into the edges of the lid. The lugs may enter recesses between the metal band and the sides, which recesses may be faced with metal strips 7. The metal strips forming the lugs may extend across the lid, and the lid may have finger-holes for lifting.
