Abstract
192,271. Humberstone, H. Sept, 23, 1922. Knock-down boxes.-In a box, packing case &c. of the type in which the sides and ends are hinged to a shallow tray-like base so that the walls can be folded down to lie one upon the other, in which position they are held in place by the lid, the adjacent walls are secured together in their erect position by a sliding corner piece of strip metal. In one form, Fig. 5, the corner piece 13 slides inside a metal batten on the side 6 and has a turned-over portion 14 which engages within a recess between the end 2 and a batten 16 secured thereto. In a modification, Fig. 6, the corner piece 13 is mounted upon a hinge-pin 22 carried by a plate secured to the side 2, and is provided with key-hole slots 20 which engage the heads of studs 21 on the end 6. The sides of the box are stiffened by plates 5, Fig. 4, of channel section, hinged at 4 to the shallow walls of the base.
