Abstract

1506457 Bag closures C FRANKLIN 28 April 1975 17449/75 Heading B8K A closure device for a flexible bag comprises a pin 22 around which flattened walls of the bag adjacent an opening therein can be wrapped, and a generally cylindrical resilient sleeve 24 having a slit 26 over at least a portion of its length and dimensioned to be slid along the length of the pin with the wrapped-around walls of the bag trapped between the pin and the sleeve and the flattened walls extending through the slit, as in Fig. 3. The pin includes an enlargement at one end to facilitate withdrawing the pin from the sleeve. As described a colostomy bag 10 having single or double walls of PVC welded at 12 has an opening 14 surrounded by a welded-on flange 16, and a lower neck 20 with an open end. The neck may be sealed by the pin and sleeve closure device. The pin may be of polypropylene and the sleeve of polypropylene or polythene. The slit 26 may extend over part or all of the length of the sleeve and may diverge at at least one end. The pin may be longer than the sleeve and have a screw-thread or one or more annular barb-like projections at its end which projects from the sleeve in use to enable an end closure device to be fitted thereto to prevent the pin leaving the sleeve inadvertently.
