Abstract

1389351 Stoppers etc.; "easy open" can ends NATIONAL CAN CORP 22 Nov 1972 [23 Nov 1971 (2)] 53884/72 Headings B8T and B8D An opening device for a container has a lip portion 16 with protrusions 23 which extend through apertures and grip the container end 13 in locking grooves 19 which form an air-tight seal. A removable portion 17 which is moulded integrally with the lip portion 16 has plugs 25 to fit into snap grooves 27 and make air-tight seals for container reclosure. The container is opened by pulling tab 18 which causes the device to break along the line 24. The removable portion 17 is then reversed for container closure. In a modified version, Fig. 8 (not shown), the plugs 25 are hollow and joined by their plug portions to the lip portion 16. The pull tab 38 may be connected to the removable portion 37 by a bridge 41 and the removable portion 37 connected to the lip portion 36 by a hinge 42.
