Abstract

1,124,847. Stoppers; pouring spouts. GENERALE ALIMENTAIRE S.A. 6 July, 1966 [6 July, 1965], No. 30276/66. Headings B8D and B8T. A plastics stopper is moulded integrally with an elongated pull-strip 8 and a rupturable closure membrane 6, lines of weakness 7 &c. tearing when the strip is pulled to break the membrane and open the bottle &c. on which the stopper is used. As shown, a circular outer line of weakness 7 surrounds the membrane 6 and connects it to the main body of the stopper. An inner arcuate line of weakness 11 extends part-way round the membrane 6, and terminates with a short radial line of weakness 12 at one end adjacent an integrally moulded connection 9 to the pull-strip 8. When the bottle &c. is opened by pulling the strip 8, the whole membrane 6 is torn out of the stopper. The pullstrip 8 is of helical configuration, and ends with a spherical knob 10. After opening, the stopper can be temporarily closed by a cap (13), Fig. 1 (not shown), force-fitted or screwed on to a flange 15, Fig. 2, around the stopper. A pouring lip 5 surrounds the rupturable membrane 6, and a ring-shaped bead 4 inside the stopper skirt 2 grips a correspondingly shaped groove around the mouth of the bottle (3). In a modification, the inner arcuate line of weakness 11 is replaced by a radial line of weakness (16), Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), extending to the centre of the membrane (6). In another modification, the rupturable membrane (6), Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), is moulded integrally with the stopper adjacent its pouring lip (5), instead of some way below, and the pull-strip 8 is flat, is wound very nearly into a closed circle, and has a flat knob (10) at its end.
