Abstract

1504802 Laminating method YHTYNEET PAPERITEHTAAT OY 9 Oct 1975 [30 Oct 1974] 41519/75 Heading B5N A method of laminating at least one layer 1, 2 of a web material of paper or other liquid absorbent, liquid pervious material and a layer 3 of plastics film comprises: (a) contacting a molten extruded layer of the plastics on at least one face thereof with the web material; (b) passing the resultant assembly through the nip of a pressure roller 6 and a counter roller 7 while the plastics film is still tacky and (c) pressing the layers together along longitudinally and transversely distinct portions of their surfaces during passage through the nip to form bonded areas at which the layers of the laminate adhere, the layers being loose from each other along the remaining portions of their surfaces. In the embodiment described, the pressure roller is provided with a relief pattern and the two rollers 6 and 7 and the support roller are water cooled, the web material may be crepe paper and the plastics material polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide or an ionomer.
