Abstract
1373991 Laminated filter and its manufacture AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO Inc 10 Jan 1972 [11 Jan 1971] 1115/72 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions B1 and B8] An air filter (Fig. 2, not shown) comprises two layers of fibreglass sandwiching a stiffening layer of expanded metal, wire screen or perforate metal (bottle top scraps) or plastics, enclosed in a polyethylene bag 25 with panels 26 defined by perforations enabling the panels to be torn away before the filter is used, the peripheral part of the bag remaining round the filter. In manufacture continuous webs of fibreglass, 1, 2 are fed by endless conveyers on to upper and lower sides of a continuous web of expanded metal 3. Web 3 passes between rollers 9, 11, of which roller 11 rotates faster and lifts hot adhesive from pan 12 on to the web, whereby both sides of the web are coated. The three webs are pressed together by rollers 13, pass through a curing chamber 16 where the adhesive sets, and the resulting laminate is cut into pads and packaged in polyethylene bags at 19. The adhesive may be tricresyl phosphate.
