Abstract

1502978 Container closures GROUPEMENT POUR LES ACTIVITES ET AVANCEES 19 Sept 1975 [2 Oct 1974 6 Dec 1974] 38651/75 Heading B8T A closure for a container having a circular opening comprises a lid having a circular periphery and a sealing ring having a first annular portion for engaging beneath the rim of the lid and a second annular portion spaced from and extending radially outwardly of the first annular portion for engaging a surface region of the vessel that extends around its opening when the closure is in use, upon closing the vessel with the closure an inner part of the sealing ring adjacent the first annular portion engages an outer part of the sealing ring that is adjacent the second annular portion. In the closure of Figs. 1 and 3 the sealing ring 6 has a laterally inverted question mark configuration and two beads 7, 9 engaging the rim 12 of a lid 11 and a boss 2 on a container 1. A part 23 of the ring 6 which may be contaminated when filling the container 1 with radio-active or toxic wastes is covered by the rim 12 in the closed position (Fig. 3). A second lid 25 may be secured to the container by the bolts 26. The closure of Fig. 4 has a sealing ring 51 of U-shaped cross-section, the bead 52 of which abuts the container rim 58 and the second lid (not shown) while the bead 56 abuts the edge 57 of the lid 50 and the bead 52. The broken lines indicate the configuration of the closure when the lid 50 has been driven home.
