Abstract

1501078 Transversely slidable breechblock drive RHEINMETALL GmbH 2 March 1970 [10 May 1969] 9967/70 Heading F3C A means for driving a gun breech block, which is displaceable transversely with respect to the axis of the gun barrel bore and operated by the forward movement or recoil of the barrel, comprises a first pair of hydraulic cylinders 4 parallel to the axis of the barrel bore and interconnected with a second pair of cylinders 5 in the direction of movement of the breech block 3, which block 3 is connected with the piston-rods 7 of the cylinders 5. In the embodiment illustrated, on forward movement of the barrel 1 the piston-rods 10 of the cylinders 4 impinge upon a bolt 12 and are forced into the cylinders, causing the piston-rods 7 to rise out of the cylinders 5 carrying the breech block 3 with them by means of a cross-piece 8. In this position the gun is loaded. The bolt 12 is then manually shifted to bring two apertures adjacent the piston-rods 10 which under the weight of the breech block 3 slide into two bores 16 in the cradle 11. After firing the barrel 1 recoils with closed breech block and the bolt 12 under the influence of a spring returns to its idle position as soon as the piston-rods 10 have left the apertures in the bolt 12. To enable the breech block to be opened by hand, a manually operated pump 17, with a liquid reservoir, is provided underneath the barrel 1 and connected to the fronts of the cylinders 4.
