1499109 Railway track heating apparatus BULLFINCH (GAS EQUIPMENT) Ltd 1 Sept 1975 [5 Sept 1974] 38809/74 Heading F4T [Also in Division E1] Railway track heating apparatus comprises a duct 16, open at one end, for defining a flue in use extending longitudinally of a length of rail 12, and a gas fuelled burner at said one end of the duct having a burner tube 27 in which a mixture of gas and air is completely burnt to form a flame which is directed into a flame tube 25 within the end part of the duct adjacent to but spaced from the burner tube. The duct 16 is an open-sided channel whose open side is urged into abutment with one side of the rail by brackets 18 which are adjustable by means of eccentric cams 22, and the end of the duct remote from the burner is closed, there being apertures 23 adjacent said closed end defined in part by the rail. A single burner is provided between two ducts 16, 17 having respective flame tubes 25, 26 into which flames are directed from T-shaped burner tube 27. The burner is lit by a spark igniter 29 fed by a batteryoperated pulse generator (34), Figs. 2, 5 (not shown), which is switched on when a pressuresensitive diaphragm switch 42 senses a sufficient gas pressure and is switched off by a thermostatic switch 36 when the burner is lit. There may be a solenoid valve (52), Fig. 5 (not shown), in the gas supply, downstream of the pressuresensitive switch 42 which is opened by a thermostatic switch (50) when the ambient temperature is below a predetermined level. The switch (50) may be by-passed and the valve (52) actuated by a manual override switch (54). The gas is supplied from pressurized containers, and a single supply and control circuit may be connected to several burners.
