Abstract

149,865. Munslow, W. E. Oct. 13, 1919. Sleepers, metal, and securing rails thereto.- Tubular metal sleepers have a straight base 17, Fig. 3, and oval-shaped sides 18 and top 19, the top being depressed to provide flat rail seats 20. Between the rail seats, the base may have transverse ribs entering the road-bed, and the ribs may be connected. The shoulders 21 forming the edge of the rail seats are apertured to receive fasteners 22', Fig. 14, the ends of which are bent over the rail flanges or are threaded to receive nuts. The centre part of the fasteners may be straightened in the sleeper by jacks. The sleeper may be in two portions, Fig. 2, with flanges 23, Fig. 4, connected by bolts 27; for electric railways, the sleeper portions are insu. lated by plates 24 and bushings 25 having bevelled edges engaged by washers 30.
