Abstract

1495833 Floating storage tanks OFFSHORE TECHNOLOGY CORP 17 Feb 1975 [19 Feb 1974] 6547/75 Heading B7A A semi-submersible drilling and oil storage unit has storage hull 12 which contains a first group of tanks 80 for air and oil and a second group of tanks 84 for water and oil. Each of the tanks has connections for fluid input and discharge. Fluid control apparatus inserts air through these connections into the first group of tanks and water ballast into the second group to submerge the hull to a given submerged draft. The fluid control apparatus includes arrangements for inserting oil into the first and second group of tanks and simultaneously expelling air and water from the respective tanks in proportion to maintain the given buoyancy of the hull and the given submerged draft. Stabilizers 14 are articulately connected to the hull around its outer edge.
