Abstract
149,506. Siemens Bros. & Co., and Petithory, E. A. July 14, 1919. Automatic circuit-breakers; switch-boards; contacts.-A thermally-released automatic cut-out. particularly for telephone apparatus, comprises a pivoted bridging piece 6 normally completing the main circuit between a contact strip 4 and a bimetallic strip 5 having a hooked end 10 which directly retains the bridging-piece against gravity or spring return. The strip is heated by a surrounding coil 12 carrying the main current or directly by the passage of the current therethrough, and it is ribbed at 11 so that with excess current it opens out at the bent portion and releases the bridging-piece, which falls over by gravity aided by the contact spring 4 and presses together two contacts 15, 16 in an alarm circuit. A set of switches as described may be mounted side by side on a bent base-plate 1, and a spindle 13 with an external operating-knob may be mounted in the insulating-block 3 and provided witharms 14 whereby any bridging-piece that has fallen may be restored. A single bus-bar may be used instead of a series of plates 15.
