Abstract

1493737 Suspended ceilings THERMO ACOUSTIC PRODUCTS Ltd 3 Sept 1975 [17 Jan 1975] 36212/75 Heading E1W A demountable ceiling assembly comprises mineral fibre panels 4, 4' with each panel being held at one end by means of a longitudinal girder 6 having an L-shaped lower portion with the bar 10 of the L engaging loosely in a longitudinal groove 11 in one edge of the panel 4', each longitudinal girder also having an angle bend 9 supporting a Z- shaped holder 12 of which the lower limb 12' is folded over on itself and slightly open so as to be lightly compressed in a groove 13 formed in the adjacent edge of an adjacent panel 4, the relative dimensions of the girder and holder being such that, in use, adjacent panels lie in the same plane, and the angle bend in the girder 6 being located with clearance from support members from which the girder is suspended such that one end of the panel and its associated holder may be raised unimpeded as a first step towards removal of the panel from the assembly. Typically a portion of the girder 6 above the angle bend has a T-shaped cross-section, the longitudinal girder 6 being suspended from cross girders 3 by yokes 5 engaging around the cross girders and below the two arms of the bar of the T. Stiffening angle members 16 may be inserted into grooves in the panel edges transverse to the grooves 11, 13. If the edge panels 4' are to be removable the angle bracket 15 is provided or formed with a spacer so that it stands sufficiently proud and clear of the wall 14 to permit a lateral shift and raising of the free end of the edge panel.
