Abstract

1413016 Fireproof cladding for metal beams WA SMITH 21 Jan 1974 [29 Jan 1973] 4473/73 Addition to 1358853 Heading E1K The fireproof cladding of the parent specification is modified, for use with an I beam 1, in that one of the insulation slabs 2, provided as a soffit slab for application to an adhesive coating 6 on the underside of the lower flange of the beam, protrudes beyond the edges of the flange and carries at least one fixing clip 5 projecting laterally beyond the lower flange and divided by a slit in its projecting portion, the portion on one side of the slit being bent over the edge of the flange to retain the slab, while the other portion is left to provide a seat for the bottom end of a web-protecting slab 3. The latter is secured by adhesive to the adjacent flange edges and is held in position by friction resulting from the engagement of spring-clips 4, which are secured in the top edge of the slab 3 to project at an acute angle to its surface, with the underside of a concrete floor slab or the like supported on the beam 1. Slabs 3 are preferably provided at both sides of the web, as shown. Where the insulation slabs 2, 3 are in sections arranged end-to-end, adhesive 6 is also used between the adjacent end edges of the sections, the sections of the slabs 3 being additionally secured by narrow slab sections 8 overlapping the joints, adhesive 6 also being used to secure these in place.
