Abstract

1362321 Walls; ceilings CERTAIN-TEED SAINT GOBAIN INSULATION CORP 10 Jan 1972 [13 Jan 1971] 1049/72 Heading E1W [Also in Division B5] A building insulation construction e.g. for walls or ceilings comprises a plurality of panels attached to support members, each panel comprising a layer 7 of fibrous insulating material and a facing sheet S e.g. of paper or of paper carrying an aluminium foil, the facing sheet having lip portions 12 and 13, 14 and 15 which project beyond opposite edges of the layer and the outer surface of the sheet having a decorative pattern throughout the area of the sheet which lies over the layer, the pattern terminating short of the free area of one lip portion so as to provide an area thereof free of pattern. In Figs. 1 and 2, the lines 8 and 9 represent the edges of the layer, lines 10 and 11 being fold lines, a part 12 of one lip portion being folded down and under part 13 and part 14 of the other lip portion being folded down and under part 15, the folded lip portions being bonded during manufacture by an asphalt adhesive to provide double ply lip portions for mounting the panel, the decorative pattern extending from line 9 and across part 15 to line 16. The panels may, as shown on Fig. 3, be mounted flush with the projecting lip portions overlapping the studs 17 and secured thereto by stapling, the projecting lip portion at one edge of one panel overlapping the projecting lip portion of an adjoining panel. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 6, the panel is positioned between the studs 17, with the projecting lip portions at right angles to the mean plane of the wall and secured by stapling to the opposed side faces of the studs.
