Abstract
149,091. Denison, G. H., and Brown, S. G. May 17, 1919. Presses, cylinder-and-piston; pressure-producing apparatus.-In an hydraulic testing-machine, more particularly of the type described in Specification 121,013, for the purpose of testing springs, the passage-ways connecting the cylinder 4 to the pump 5 are made as short as possible by bolting the flanges 7, 8 of the pump ports directly to the port passages 9, 10 of the cylinder in order that the quantity of fluid in motion may be reduced to a minimum and thus reduce the surface friction and momentum so as to permit rapid reversals of flow of the pressure fluid. Air suction in the system is avoided by placing the supply tank 11 above the cylinder and pump, the usual relief and suction valves being enclosed in the tank. The pump may be driven by an electric motor 12 and controlled by means of a lever 6 in reach of the operator.
