Abstract

779,785. Reciprocating pumps. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS), Ltd. May 20, 1955 [May 31, 1954], No. 16040/54. Class 102(1) An injection unit for injecting solids into a pipe 5 containing liquid under pressure comprises a valve 6 and a piston 8 reciprocable in a cylinder 9 the valve 6. being rotatable to connect the cylinder either to a hopper 1 or the pipe 5. Two pistons 8 are connected by a rocking lever which is actuated by pneumatic or hydraulic pressure and the valves 6 are actuated by quadrants engaging gears 16, actuated by a hydraulic or pneumatic motor. In another embodiment four cylinders feed into, the pipe 5 and each piston is actuated by a hydraulic motor which motors are coupled in pairs, the associated valves being coupled in pairs by chain and sprocket drives. Cutting edges are provided on the valve and cylinder. The valve may be adjusted by shims and it may be frustoconical.
