Abstract
1366468 Hydraulic driving gear; two stroke engines; telemotor systems SULZER BROS Ltd 12 April 1972 [26 April 1971] 16896/72 Headings F1B and F1P In an I.C. engine in which a pair of working pistons 5, 5' are rigidly connected by piston rods through sealing bores to hydraulic pistons 7 movable in a pair of hydraulic cylinders which are connected by a pair of drive ducts 10 to the chambers of a hydraulic motor which expand and contract in anti-phase, the hydraulic cylinders are double acting and their cylinder chambers remote from the hydraulic motor are joined by a connecting duct 23. The hydraulic system has a feed means 9 to maintain a positive pressure which delivers through non-return valves 20 into the drive ducts 10 and through a manual or automatically controlled stop valve 22 into the connecting duct 23 and also to ports 26 in the sealing bores. Each piston rod has a control groove 28 which connects port 26 to port 25 in some working positions, the port 25 being connected to the chamber of the hydraulic cylinder nearer the working piston. Ports 27 and ducts 30 discharge any fluid leakage and the leakage flow past pistons 7 is arranged to be less than the leakage flow along the piston rods 6 so that the fluid volume in the upper cylinder chamber and connecting duct 23 always tends to fall and pistons 5 tend to move upwardly because of the feed make-up fluid supplied to the drive ducts 10.
