Abstract

1,034,057. Hydraulic reciprocating motors and pumps. WORTHINGTON CORPORATION. April 23, 1964 [Dec. 19, 1963], No. 16823/64. Heading F1A. In a variable capacity pump comprising pumping pistons 16, 16<SP>1</SP> coupled to hydraulic motor pistons 23, 23<SP>1</SP>, the motor distributing valves 28, 28<SP>1</SP> are controlled by the pistons through the linkage shown and have control surfaces or ports shaped such that the piston speed varies during each stroke, increased pressure for each motor piston at the beginning of its stroke being provided by throttling the flow of actuating liquid to the other motor piston. Motor piston 23 actuates control valve 28 and throttle valve 34 controlling motor piston 23<SP>1</SP>, and motor piston 23<SP>1</SP> actuates valves 28<SP>1</SP> and 34<SP>1</SP> controlling piston 23. The valve members of valves 28, 28<SP>1</SP> have cutaways 45 shaped as shown, to provide the required velocity variation of the pistons. Alternatively, valve ports 33, 33<SP>1</SP> may be shaped to provide the velocity variation. Actuating liquid is supplied by a variable displacement pump 20 drawing from a reservoir 26. Two double-acting pistons may be used in place of the flow pump pistons 16, 16<SP>1</SP>.
