1486645 Internal shoe drum brakes GIRLING Ltd 18 Aug 1975 [4 Sept 1974] 38651/74 Heading F2E An internal shoe drum brake comprises a pair of opposed brake shoes S and a separate spring 1 extending alongside and generally parallel to each shoe, each spring 1 having one end 1a anchored at 1<SP>1</SP> to its associated shoe and the opposite end 1b connected by a force-transmitting means 2, 3, to the other shoe to pull the two shoes towards each other. As shown, the end 1a of each spring 1 is provided with a hook which passes through an aperture in a shoe web, and the force transmitting means includes a bell crank 2 and a rigid link 3. The force-transmitting means may alternatively include a cable having one end attached to end 1b and the other end attached to the other brake shoe, the cable passing around a pulley mounted on the associated shoe.
