Abstract

1,148,199. Internal shoe drum brakes. ALFRED TEVES G.m.b.H. 11 Aug., 1967 [15 Oct., 1966], No. 36932/67. Heading F2E. In an expanding-wedge-operated drum brake, wherein the braking force is transmitted from the wedge 5 to thrust pins 3 via pressure rollers 7 mounted in a recess in the pins 3 the wedge 5 is so shaped (at 5a) over a length corresponding to brake clearance as to provide a larger angle of attack than at the part (5b) which transmits the braking force. The rollers 7 may be mounted in needle-cage bearing segments 9. The actuator may be employed in a brake of the type in which shoe 2 acts as primary or secondary shoe in dependence on the direction of travel of the vehicle, the shoe 2 bearing against the thrust pin 3 in one such direction, a damping spring 10 being provided between the thrust pin and the casing 1.
