Abstract

148,632. Round, H. J. April 28, 1919. Wireless telephony; thermionic relays. - In systems in which oscillations produced by a thermionic generator are modulated in accordance with speech currents, the direct current in the plate circuit of the generator is supplied by the rectification of part of the alternating speech currents. The production of oscillations, therefore, starts and stops with the speaking voice. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the microphone circuit includes the primaries of two transformers T1, T2. The currents in the secondary of the transformer T1 act through a rectifier R to charge a large capacity C in the plate circuit of the generator V, while the currents in the secondary of the transformer T2 vary the amplitude of the oscillations generated. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, a second rectifier R1 is bridged across the condenser C to accelerate its discharge when speech ceases, and the modulated oscillations are magnified by an amplifier V2.
