Abstract

1485476 Stapler XEROX CORP 20 Nov 1974 [27 Dec 1973 (4)] 50286/74 Heading B4C [Also in Division B8] Apparatus 71, Fig. 5, for stapling together stacks of sheets assembled vertically in pockets 57 comprises a staple supply 75, means 76 for feeding the staples into a staple driving head 174, and an anvil 77, all connected to a cylindrical carriage member 78 slidable on a guide rail 173. When actuated by a solenoid, a driver 79 hits a trigger in the head 174 to staple the sheets. Between stapling operations, the apparatus 71 is rotated outwardly about the rail to clear the walls 85 of the pockets, moved along the rail to the next pocket by a rod 109, and rotated inwardly to stapling position, the rotating movement being controlled by a rotating solenoid 79<SP>1</SP>. The stapled stacks are ejected from the pockets 57 either by opening pivoted pocket bottoms 83, Fig. 5, or laterally by means of a drive wheel 417, Fig. 10, rotated by a motor MOT-3 and mounted on a member 436 pivoted at 438. For ejection, a solenoid 431 causes its arm 433 to move the wheel 417 towards a freely rotating wheel 411 projecting through a recess 423 in the pocket wall 73. The assembly is mounted on the stapler carriage 78.
