Abstract

1,015,098. Stapling machines. SENCO PRODUCTS Inc. June 19, 1964 [March 11, 1964], No. 25475/64. Heading B4C. A fastener driving machine, such as a stapling machine, comprises a driver 15, Figs. 1 and 2, reciprocated by means 10 such as a pneumatically-actuated piston, fastener feeding means 13 and a driver guide body 11 having a drive track 12 and a fastener feed stop 20, means 21, 22, 23 being provided for releasably securing a wall 19 of the drive track. The guide body 1 includes a body portion 16 rigidly secured to the machine housing and defining the rear and side walls of the drive track, the front wall 19 being hinged about a pin 18. The wall 19 is retained in its normal position by means of pins 21, 22 loaded by a spring 23, the ends of the pins being tapered for engagement with correspondingly shaped recesses 27, 28 formed in the body portion 16. In operation, the leading staple is urged against the fixed stop 20 and the inner surface of the wall 19 by a spring-loaded feeding means, the staple then being driven through the track 12 by the driver 15. In the event of the staple becoming jammed in the track, the front wall is automatically forced open and the bent staple removed. In a modification, the spring- loaded pins may be located at right angles to the position shown in Fig. 1, or they may be replaced by hairpin-shaped springs having ends which engage with conical-shaped headed pins or a plate-type spring may be used.
