Abstract

1485016 Burners SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 29 Oct 1974 [31 Oct 1973] 46727/74 Heading F4T A method of bringing a hydrogen-sulphideburning plant into stand-by position comprises the steps of supplying a fuel at branch 2, supplying an oxygen-containing gas at branch 4, supplying steam and/or water at branch 3, and discontinuing the hydrogen-sulphide supply, the steam or water being introduced into the flame formed by the combustion of the fuel with the aid of the gas. In operation, sulphur is formed in a Claus reactor 7, when hydrogensulphide is burnt in a combustion chamber 6, both chambers being lined with refractory materials 11, 12. If it is necessary to discontinue this process but still keep the plant at a stand-by position the supply of hydrogensulphide is cut-off and the fuel, air, steam/water, supplied by the burner keeps the plant operating. The burner used in the plant comprises a gun including a supply tube 1, Fig. 2, for the hydrogen - sulphide, a central water / steam supply tube 3, and a fuel supply tube 2 having a cone-shaped diffuser 10 and a plurality of fuel outlets 9.
