Abstract

1463663 Burners SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 26 March 1974 [28 March 1973] 14901/73 Addition to 1317168 Heading F4T A porous media burner for gaseous fuels comprises an outer casing 1 of impermeable material and a hollow core 2 of porous metal or refractory material supported by a perforated metal cage open at one end; a gas-distributing space 3a, 3b between the casing and core connected to the gas inlet 6, and a seal cover 5 of impermeable refractory material. The burner is connected to a nozzle 7 having a part 8 of zirconia, and a pilot burner 11 is provided. In operation, a natural gas or LPG, and air mixture enters inlet 6, passes along space 3a between the metal casing 1 and a baffle 9, through a gap 10, so as to cool the front of the burner, along space 3b, and then through the walls of the porous core 2 into the bore 4 where it burns, and the combustion gases pass out through nozzle 7. The pilot burner can be fed with the same fuel mixture.
