Abstract

1483935 Selective electrostatic printing XEROX CORP 23 Aug 1974 37106/74 Heading B6F Electrode roller 1 receives an ink coating from duct 6, and transfers it to copy paper 4 only where an appropriate one of the independent circumferential portions of which the electrode roller 1 is made up is so energized as to cause at least a portion of the ink to migrate towards second electrode 2 and be intercepted by the paper. Each of the portions of roller 1 in consequence produces an image line on the copy paper. Alternatively the migrating ink may cover parts of the roller surface which were previously wiped clear of ink, and be transferred to a copy sheet at a later encounter. Again ink may pass to the surface of a second electrode roller which is composed of longitudinal selectively energizable portions, so that it forms dots according to the meeting portions of the electrode rollers and is so transferred to a copy sheet.
