Abstract

1483455 Centrifugal blowers NU-WAY HEATING PLANTS Ltd 21 Aug 1974 [8 Sept 1973] 42348/73 Heading F1C A radial-flow blower comprises a spiral casing 10, Fig. 2, having a tangential outlet and an inlet 21 in an axial end-wall 20 thereof. The axial dimension of the impeller is between 30 and 85% of the internal axial dimension of the casing and the impeller is spaced from the wall 20 by a distance which is the greater part of the difference between said axial dimensions, whereby a return flow path 19 is established from space 18 to the interior of the impeller. A guide member 22 partly surrounds the inlet 21 and extends into the impeller as shown. The end of the guide member adjacent the hub 23 may completely surround and be supported by the hub. The inlet 21 is a sector-shaped opening with its centre of area offset from the impeller axis, the leading edge of the inlet opening, with regard to the direction of rotation, lying between 0 and 135 degrees to the axis of the outlet and the trailing edge defining with leading edge an included angle of between 45 and 240 degrees. Inlet 21 may be provided with a pivoted flap or shutter for varying the included angle.
