1481892 Secateurs STANLEY TOOLS Ltd 16 Oct 1975 [13 Jan 1975] 1396/75 Heading B4B Secateurs comprise a pair of handles 11, 12 pivoted together and a selectively operable unitary locking member 16 for selectively locking the handles in a closed-together position; the locking member comprising a pivot portion 16a by means of which it is pivotally mounted, a manually engageable portion 16b by means of which it is selectively operable, a locking portion 16c which is movable selectively into and out of operative position in which it causes the handles to be locked in said closedtogether position, and a spring portion 16d for holding the locking member releasably in its operative position and alternatively in a non- operative position; the pivot portion, the locking portion and the spring portion of the locking member being located in an enclosed space defined by surfaces of the two handles and being concealed from view by the two handles and by the manually engageable portion of the locking member and the looking portion 16c of the locking member being engageable in its operative position by parts 11d, 12e of both handles so that locking of the handles in said closed-together position is by means of the locking portion itself, the pivot portion of the locking member being thereby relieved of harmful stress if the handles are pressed apart when in the locked condition. The locking face 16c is arranged to cam the handles progressively to the locked position as it is moved to its operative position thus providing for wear of the face 16c.
