Abstract

1,098,292. Pliers. P. J. WILSON. Oct. 23, 1964 [Oct. 31, 1963], No. 42986/63. Heading B4W. [Also in Division E2] Gripping or cutting pliers comprising pivoted handles 1, 2 and having jaw members 4, 5 pivoted together and to a different one of the handles by jaw-handle pivots 7, 8 are provided with eccentric means for adjusting the position of at least one of the pivots 3, 7, 8 whereby the separation of the jaw members in the fully closed position may be adjusted. The two jaw handle pivots 7, 8 each comprise a central pivot pin 9 secured by a threaded cap 10 and a splined insert 11 eccentrically bored to receive the pin 9 the insert being housed in a correspondingly grooved recess 12 in the respective jaw member. The degree of grip between the tips of the jaw members is adjusted by altering the relative position of the inserts in the recesses 12. In a modification the central pivot 3 embodies the eccentric means.
