[Also in Division F2] In secateurs comprising a pair of pivoted members 10, 11, Fig. 1, defining two handles 12, 13 and two jaws 14, 15, the member 10 is in two parts which define therebetween a space in which is housed a spring 21 biasing the jaws open, the spring being supported by rivets (16), Fig. 2 (not shown), interconnecting the two parts and having its movable end bearing on a lug 23, Fig. 3, projecting from the other member 11, the lug being separated by a cam surface 36 from a recess 25 which receives a locking member 26 when the jaws are fully closed. The spring has an indentation (22), Fig. 2 (not shown), engaged by one of the rivets 16 to prevent longitudinal movement of the spring relative to the two-part member 10. The locking: member 26 comprises a bolt the shank (27), Fig. 4 (not shown), of which is movably housed in a slot 24 in the two-part member 10, the end of the shank being engageable by a resilient cap (29). The handles 12, 13 are fitted with sleeves 33, 34 of rubber or like elastomeric material. The jaw portions of the two part member 10 have secured therebetween the web of a T-shaped anvil 17 the flange of which covers the upper edges of the jaw portions. The jaw of the other member 11 has a knife edge 19. Alternatively, the anvil may be replaced by a knife edge.
