Abstract

Vacuum tubes.-To avoid loss of efficiency in thermionic-valve transmitting-apparatus for wireless telegraphy, owing to current in the grid circuit due to current in the anode circuit differing from sine form, two tubes are used connected in opposition as shown in Fig. 3, the anode of one tube being connected to the cathode of the other. With inductances in the oscillation circuit, the connexions of the tubes may be displaced with respect to one another, three particular cases arising when, respectively, the grid connexions, anode connexions, and cathode connexions coincide. The last two cases allow the use of a single tube containing a common anode (or cathode) and two symmetrically-disposed cathodes (or anodes) and grids. A tube with a common anode and symmetrically-disposed cathodes and grids is shown connected-up in Fig. 11.
