Abstract
1476902 Luminescent materials and uses thereof PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 Feb 1975 [13 Feb 1974] 5486/75 Heading C4S A Ce activated luminescent material is of formula where Me is Sr and/or Ca, A is Na, K and/or Rb, and 0#p#0À10, 0À005#x#0À30, 0#y#0À30, and 0#z#3. x\y may be 0À9 to 1À1. The aluminate has a hexagonal crystal structure. Partial replacement of bivalent Me by univalent A charge compensates replacement also by Ce<SP>3+</SP>. Applications of the u.v. emitting phosphor include high and low p Hg vapour lamps for influencing photochemical processes, e.g. lacquer hardening or for general erythermal radiation. Preparation may be by heating compounds producing oxides, or oxides at 1200-1700 C. for example. Preferably there are two or more heating stages, a first at 800 C. decomposing any hydroxides. Al or part of the alkaline earth added as fluoride increases the reaction speed. Examples are detailed.
